ABOUT FANCY FINS    ABOUT FANCY FINS    ABOUT FANCY FINS    ABOUT FANCY FINS    ABOUT FANCY FINS    ABOUT FANCY FINS

It all started with Patty... My first pond was put in, in the early 60’s. Living in the country and having no restrictions to follow such as buried power or cable lines. I started my pond. We had an old 10 foot stock tank no longer in use. I dug a hole the size of the tank, hooked a chain around the tank and hooked it to the tractor, and pulled the tank into the hole. I made a trip to the nearest Woolworth’s store and purchased a number of 5-cent goldfish. The Tank froze solid that winter, but in the spring there were hundreds of goldfish. Every one in the county had goldfish, regardless if they wanted them or not.
I lived on Maui for 12 years and had a little pond at my home there and learned a great deal about pond keeping and caring for and koi and goldfish from my oriental friends and neighbors. In 1989 I and Doug were married and the one requirement to the relationship was that I had to have a pond. In 1990 we joined the Idaho Water Garden Society before we started our first pond. We learned so much from them! Living on a $5 budget we started saving for our first pond. We would sit in the far corner of our back yard on our imaginary bench and gazed at our imaginary pond with great expectations.
The winter of 1991 we laid down on the floor and started drawing pictures of our hopes and dreams. 1992 rolled around and we had saved enough money for the liner. The hole was dug, the liner installed and the water, plants and fish were put in the pond. Soon after we thought; "Oh yah, guess we need a pump now". The rest is history. Now it is like; "DOUG, NO MORE PONDS! Three are enough!" We have made every possible mistake, but we have learned so much. This has made it possible for us to help keep others from making the same mistakes. After helping so many people it was suggested that we should open a business. That's when Fancy Fins became a Reality.
