BENEFITS OF SALT IN YOUR POND    BENEFITS OF SALT IN YOUR POND    BENEFITS OF SALT IN YOUR POND    BENEFITS OF SALT IN YOUR POND

Salt works best on Ich and does not harm the majority of fish.
It won't push sick fish over the edge, and it Eliminates 7 of the 9 Parasites.
Salt doesn't get bound out of the system by organics or sunlight.
It doesn't pose a health risk to humans who come into contact with it. It is inexpensive and won't harm your filter.
The list of parasites Salt kills is impressive; Costa, Chilodinella, Epistylis, Scyphidia, Glossatella, Ichthyophthirius (Ich) and it can clear the surface ulcerations caused by Terahymena.
Salt can clear new introductions of the above parasites when used as a 3.0% dip
(with the possible exception of Ich, which can resist dipping while encysted in the skin).
Anchor Worm reproduction is quelled in 0.3% salt, but Dimilin is preferable for anchor worm eradication.

Salt at 0.3%:

  • Inhibits the uptake of nitrites by the fish and thereby limits damage done by the nitrites to the red blood cells.

  • Inhibits the uptake of ammonia by the fish, so gill and other tissue damage by ammonia is minimized.

  • Performs wonderfully in the stimulation of mucus producing "goblet-cells" in the fish's epidermis. Fish under attack by parasites (especially ciliates) and fish with ulcers do much better with a heavy slime coat produced by the addition of salt.
  • The additional Slime can help cover minor wounds as well.

  • When water salinity is raised to 0.3%, it is much closer to the Osmolality of the fish (0.9%)
and so less water is pushing into the fish's wounds, gills, skin etc.

  • Warning! Salt levels higher than 0.15% in your pond will stress your plants.

To Quarantine Fish Use Salt Level of 0.4% For No Longer Than 2 Weeks.
